Importance of Cleaning Makeup Brushes
You may wonder: What does personal style have to do with cleaning brushes? It is completely related, and here I am going to explain why. I know that cleaning brushes is something that almost no one likes to do, including me. But why is it important to clean them? How often should they be cleaned? What happens if I don't clean them as I should?
Why Clean Your Makeup Brushes?
I used to neglect cleaning my brushes regularly, thinking it wasn't a big deal. However, after experiencing frequent breakouts and skin irritations, I realized the importance of maintaining clean brushes. Now, I make it a part of my weekly routine, and my skin has never been better.
Skin care is part of maintaining a good personal style, and this not only includes washing your face, applying serum, and moisturizing. If you wear makeup, regardless of the amount, you must clean your brushes. By not doing this, you are creating the perfect environment for acne breakouts or pimples. Using an excellent face cleanser is pointless if you apply makeup with brushes full of bacteria. Melissa Piliang says: "Keeping your makeup tools clean can go a long way toward keeping harmful bacteria from getting on your face".
How Often Should You Clean Them?
The frequency with which you clean your brushes varies from person to person. If you wear makeup daily, you should do a deep cleaning at least once a week. The AAD (American Academy of Dermatology Association) says: To protect your skin and kill any harmful bacteria that lingers in your makeup brushes, it’s a good idea to wash your brushes every 7 to 10 days.
I use a bar soap called Zote, which dissolves makeup on the brushes quickly, and then I spray them with alcohol. Quick-drying cleaners are excellent for use between deep cleans, eliminating the need for weekly deep cleaning. If you don't wear makeup frequently, you can wash them every two uses or once a month. Regardless of the amount of makeup on the brush, bacteria will accumulate.
Consequences of Not Cleaning Your Brushes
In addition to creating the perfect recipe for acne breakouts, you are prone to getting a skin infection. This is something that can be avoided with a good cleaning regimen. Additionally, not cleaning your brushes frequently can cause them to become dull, and the bristles may begin to come off the handle. Brushes must be cared for and washed delicately. If brushes have accumulated makeup, dirt, and oil for months, washing them delicately becomes difficult.
As you can see, brush hygiene is of utmost importance. Dirty brushes will begin to grow bacteria, which can cause skin problems. This goes hand in hand with personal care and your personal style.
